Wrexham have made a sensational approach to sign Christian Eriksen following his departure from Manchester United, but the Danish midfielder has turned down the move. The League One club, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are preparing for life in the Championship after securing promotion in April.
Manager Phil Parkinson has already added six new players this summer, including Plymouth striker Ryan Hardie, former Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward and Empoli left-back Liberato Cacace. This week, the club also signed Bolton captain George Thomason, ex-Sheffield Wednesday forward Josh Windass and Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien.
According to Eriksen's agent, Martin Schoot, the 33-year-old is keen to play at the highest level and has attracted interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United States, Turkey and Brazil. Schoot told the Daily Mail: 'Wrexham are really upgrading everything both on and off the field, and it is a hugely impressive project... But Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe.'
Eriksen, who has won league titles in the Netherlands and Italy as well as domestic cups with Manchester United, made 107 appearances and scored eight goals for the Red Devils. He joined United in 2022 after recovering from a cardiac arrest suffered at Euro 2020. Wrexham's chief executive Michael Williamson, who previously worked at Inter Milan, is understood to be using his Italian contacts to aid recruitment.
The Welsh side have also been linked with Leicester legend Jamie Vardy and Fulham skipper Tom Cairney, with Wales striker Kieffer Moore reportedly their latest target. Wrexham's transfer activity is expected to continue as they prepare for the Championship.
