Wrexham are considering a move for former academy player Nathan Broadhead, but their club-record £7.5 million deal for the Ipswich Town winger could collapse, prompting a fallback option in Barnsley's Davis Keillor-Dunn.
The Red Dragons, co-owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, have already spent heavily following promotion to the Championship, bringing in eight new signings. Manager Phil Parkinson has indicated further additions are likely as the club aims to strengthen its squad.
Broadhead, a Welsh international, has expressed a desire to leave Ipswich, but manager Kieran McKenna insists he will not sanction a sale unless reinforcements arrive. McKenna said: 'He's expressed his desire to look at another opportunity... but at this moment it's not the right time for us to allow a good player to leave.'
Should the Broadhead deal fall through, Wrexham are reportedly targeting Keillor-Dunn, who scored 18 goals in League One last season and previously played for Wrexham in the National League in 2020. The Barnsley forward could be available for around £5 million, offering a more budget-friendly alternative.
Parkinson acknowledged the club's transfer business is not yet complete, stating: 'We still feel we need to add in a few areas. We have been close to a couple of deals and then they didn't happen... patience is a virtue.'
