Manchester United's Legends XI suffered an 8-3 defeat against a World XI in the inaugural Legends Football League fixture in Dubai on Saturday. The match, which featured a mix of former United stars and players who never represented the club, was described by some supporters as disorganised, with details of the contest proving difficult to obtain.
The United Legends lineup included former Reds such as Patrice Evra, who scored, Dimitar Berbatov, also on the scoresheet, and Juan Sebastian Veron. However, the team also featured non-United players like legendary Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar, former Leicester City captain Wes Morgan, and ex-Swansea City winger Nathan Dyer.
The World XI boasted a star-studded lineup including Roberto Carlos, Clarence Seedorf—named Man of the Match—Rivaldo, Kaka, Didier Drogba, and Robert Pires. Despite the high scoreline, specific goal scorers for the World XI were not confirmed, adding to the sense of organised chaos surrounding the event.
The Legends Football League is a new competition featuring retired football icons, with matches lasting 90 minutes but including twists such as 'Impact Players'—current players or celebrities who can participate. The tournament is set to travel to India, the UK, Qatar, and France.
