Fans from both sides coordinated applause in the 18th and 20th minutes, reflecting Jota's squad numbers at Wolves and Liverpool respectively. The entire Wolves squad visited Jota's memorial outside Anfield the night before the match, which Liverpool won 2-1.
Slot described the atmosphere as 'difficult but special', adding: 'The football world again showed how to behave in moments like this. Our fans have been incredible since the tragedy happened.' He also highlighted the mutual respect between the fanbases, calling it a demonstration of what makes English football special.
On the pitch, Florian Wirtz scored his first Liverpool goal since his £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen. Slot noted the relief for the player, saying: 'He is getting better every game... I also liked his performance during large parts of the game today.'
