West Ham United may be in a lower division than last year, but optimism surrounds the London Stadium. Yet, a lack of summer signings leaves some concerns.
Bowen's Commitment Boosts Morale
Positivity feels strange after May's relegation pain, but reasons for cheer exist, notably Jarrod Bowen's decision to stay. The club captain narrowly missed World Cup selection and was linked with a Premier League return, but chose to lead the promotion charge after talks with Hammers chiefs.
“I did an interview after [the final game of last season] and said my vision is to get this club back in the Premier League,” Bowen said in July. “Sometimes you think it falls on deaf ears and people say 'he's just saying that.' But when I say something, I don't hide away from it. It was a no-brainer for me to be here and the vision is clear, it's the Premier League.”
Nuno's Experience and Behind-the-Scenes Changes
Bowen last played in the Championship as the seventh-highest scorer despite a mid-season move. Nuno Espirito Santo, who couldn't keep the team up but improved results after January signings, has won the Championship before with Wolves and targets another title.
Uncertainty exists behind the scenes: joint-chair David Sullivan stepped down, and a consortium including Amanda Staveley seeks a stake, but the club insists daily operations won't be affected.
Key Players and Transfer Activity
Kyle Walker-Peters and Mads Hermansen bring promotion experience. “The other teams will make it difficult for us, but we just have to focus on ourselves, do our work and be confident,” said Walker-Peters, who came up with Southampton in 2024.
Nuno's stay may convince players like Taty Castellanos, signed for £25m, and Dinos Mavropanos to remain despite interest. Axel Disasi, impressive on loan, might also drop a division.
