West Ham United’s board is split over whether to sack manager Nuno Espírito Santo following the club’s relegation from the Premier League. The Portuguese manager was called for crisis talks on Monday, with a decision expected before the end of the week.
According to sources, Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, the club’s second-largest shareholder, wants Nuno to stay, while majority shareholder David Sullivan is less certain. Kretinsky has a deal in place to increase his stake, matching Sullivan’s control. Relegation is thought to affect the value of that arrangement.
Nuno was hired on a three-year deal in September, replacing Graham Potter. His contract includes a clause allowing West Ham to dismiss him without compensation, and he is also free to leave. His desire to remain and manage in the Championship will influence the final decision. Potential replacements include Scott Parker, Slaven Bilic, and Gary O’Neil.
West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen apologised to supporters on Instagram, writing: “Winning that trophy in Prague was the best night of my career. Sunday was the worst. We just weren’t good enough. Simple as that.”
