Wade Boggs Declares Cancer Free Again After Prostate Cancer Battle
Wade Boggs Cancer Free Again After Prostate Fight

Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs has announced that he is once again cancer free, two years after first revealing his prostate cancer diagnosis. The 67-year-old shared the uplifting news on Friday night after throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before the Boston Red Sox game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.

Boggs, a 12-time All-Star who played for the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, was initially diagnosed in 2024 and declared cancer free in February 2025. However, the cancer returned later that year. Now, he has received the all-clear once more.

"I'm a cancer survivor now. Prostate cancer is null and void. Thank God," Boggs said. He was joined by other living Red Sox legends, including Carl Yastrzemski, Carlton Fisk, Pedro Martinez, David Ortiz, and Jim Rice, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the club's first home game.

Boggs credited early detection for his successful treatment, which included radiation and hormone therapy in Florida. "It's a process that you have to go through, and I encourage all young men to get your PSA tests," he urged. "Please go out there. Because mine, it wasn't even on the radar. It was a 3.3 and they don't even start talking about it until it gets to four. But I had the bad one and we caught it early."

Boggs spent 11 of his 18 major league seasons with the Red Sox, followed by five seasons with the Yankees, where he won a World Series ring in 1996. He finished his career with the Tampa Bay Rays, retiring in 1999 at age 41. Despite leaving Boston, he expressed his enduring love for the city. "I never wanted to leave Boston. My heart's always been in Boston," he said.

Boggs retired with a .328 batting average, 3,010 hits, 118 home runs, and 1,014 RBIs. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005 on his first ballot with 91.9% of the votes.
