Newly released police footage reveals that former WWE CEO Vince McMahon was involved in a high-speed car crash in Connecticut last July while a state trooper was attempting to pull him over. The 80-year-old was driving his 2024 Bentley Continental GT, valued at over $300,000, at speeds of up to 100mph on the Merritt Parkway in Westport.
The incident occurred on the same day WWE legend Hulk Hogan died of a heart attack in Florida. Bodycam footage shows Detective Maxwell Robins asking McMahon why he was driving at such high speeds, to which McMahon replied that he was on his way to his granddaughter's birthday party.
Dashcam video captures McMahon approaching a BMW in the right lane, braking and swerving left, clipping the rear of the BMW before crashing into the guardrail and coming to a stop on the right shoulder. No one was seriously injured, but a third vehicle on the opposite side of the parkway was struck by debris; its driver was wearing a WWE shirt.
McMahon was cited for reckless driving and following too closely. In October, a judge allowed him to enter a pretrial probation program, with charges to be erased if he completes it and makes a $1,000 charitable contribution. State police said the trooper was attempting to catch up to McMahon, not pursuing him, and that McMahon did not appear to be fleeing.
McMahon's lawyer, Mark Sherman, described the crash as an accident, stating, 'Not every car accident is a crime.' McMahon stepped down as WWE CEO in 2022 amid a sexual misconduct investigation and resigned as executive chairman of TKO Group Holdings in 2024 after a former employee filed a sexual abuse lawsuit, which he denies.
