Paul Merson has made a bold Premier League title prediction, claiming Arsenal will be crowned champions if they defeat Fulham next weekend. The former Arsenal midfielder spoke after the Gunners beat Newcastle 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, moving three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table.
The victory was only Arsenal's second in seven matches across all competitions, but Merson believes it could be a decisive moment. He told Sky Sports: 'If Arsenal win next week against Fulham at home, Arsenal will win the league. I have said it all season they'll win it. It is getting tight but I think if they can go six points clear.'
Merson also highlighted Manchester City's upcoming trip to Everton as a potential stumbling block for the defending champions. 'Everton away [for Man City] six points behind? Difficult game,' he added.
Despite his confidence in Arsenal's title credentials, Merson admitted that watching the team is not enjoyable at present. 'It's not a nice watch and I don't mean that in a horrible way with the team. I think it's very nervy, very nervy. It has been so long that it's sort of unenjoyable,' he said.
