Jamie Vardy in Shock Napoli Transfer Talks After Lukaku Injury

Napoli, the reigning Italian champions, are reportedly considering a surprise move for former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy. The 38-year-old has been a free agent since leaving the Foxes at the end of the 2024-25 season and remains unattached despite links to several clubs.

The Serie A side are desperate for attacking reinforcements after learning that Romelu Lukaku could be sidelined for up to three months with a thigh injury. Vardy's availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive option for Napoli boss Antonio Conte, though the club also have other targets such as Manchester United's Rasmus Hojlund and Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson.

Vardy, who scored 200 goals in 500 appearances for Leicester, has made it clear he wants to continue playing at an elite level. A move to Serie A was previously mooted earlier this summer, but Genoa boss Patrick Vieira reportedly vetoed a deal for the striker.

Recent speculation linking Vardy with a move to Inter Miami in MLS, fuelled by his wife Rebekah sharing a photo of their children in the club's kits, has since been dismissed. Napoli now appear to be the latest club to enter the race for the veteran forward's signature.
