Igor Tyjon has confirmed his departure from Blackburn Rovers with a cryptic farewell social media post ahead of completing a transfer to Arsenal.
The Gunners are expected to confirm the signing of Tyjon, an 18-year-old striker, in the coming days. Standard Sport has reported he underwent a medical last week and will move for an initial fee of £1m, with a further £2m to come in potential add-ons.
Cryptic farewell message
Tyjon has now all but confirmed the move, confirming his Blackburn exit in a social media post reflecting on a “tough” final few months of his time with the club.
Sharing a black-and-white photo of himself at Ewood Park, he wrote on Tuesday evening: “I would like to thank (Blackburn) Rovers for the last 3 years. Thank you to all my teammates and staff throughout the years.
“I’ve made friendships for life and memories I won’t forget. Lots of ups and downs and learning on the way.
“The last couple of months have been tough due to certain people and reasons I can’t say but I will never forget the good times at this club.”
Move to Arsenal
Tyjon may be referring to Blackburn’s attempts to block his move to Arsenal, who have tried to sign him in several recent transfer windows. He has been on their radar for at least a year.
Negotiations finally hit a breakthrough this month, though, and Tyjon will finally become an Arsenal player.
He is due to join up with the club’s Under-21s, but there is an expectation he will feature for Mikel Arteta’s first-team in some capacity this season. Tyjon, an England youth international, represented Rochdale before signing with Blackburn in 2023.
