Thomas Tuchel has urged England fans not to boo Ben White when the Arsenal defender makes his return to the national team after a three-and-a-half-year absence. White is set to feature in the upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, marking his first cap since leaving the England camp during the 2022 World Cup.
Tuchel acknowledged the controversy surrounding White's departure but insisted the 27-year-old is desperate to be back. “Support, because he plays for England and we play in a positive moment,” Tuchel said. “I hope everyone can support. He deserves a second chance.”
The England manager revealed that White has not discussed the reasons for his departure, but Tuchel believes an explanation to his teammates is appropriate. “He has not put a foot wrong with me. Something must have happened, but I want to give him a second chance,” Tuchel added. “An explanation among the players who were there is in progress.”
Meanwhile, defender John Stones is a fitness doubt for the Uruguay match due to a calf problem. Tuchel confirmed the squad is otherwise in good shape as they prepare for the World Cup.
