Triple Espresso Reunites for USWNT Friendlies Against Brazil

The United States women's national team's famed 'Triple Espresso' frontline of Mallory Swanson, Sophia Wilson and Trinity Rodman will reunite for the first time since the 2024 Paris Olympics for two friendlies against Brazil next month. The trio, who scored 10 of the USWNT's 12 goals en route to gold in Paris, have not appeared on the same roster for 21 months due to pregnancies and injuries.

Swanson and Wilson both announced pregnancies last spring and missed the 2025 season. Wilson returned for the Portland Thorns in April and featured in all three friendlies against Japan last month. Swanson, who last played for the national team in October 2024, scored off the bench for the Chicago Stars last weekend in her second game back. Rodman has been managing back issues and an MCL injury but has appeared in all eight USWNT matches this year, captaining the side in January.

Coach Emma Hayes emphasised the importance of reuniting the trio, saying: 'That front three haven't been together since the Olympic gold medal match. That's a long time, and we cannot waste a single minute.' She added that the team must 'recreate their connections' and get them up to speed with tactical developments.

The 26-player roster also sees the return of midfielders Croix Bethune and Riley Jackson and centre-back Tara Rudd, while goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn returns after a hand injury. Notable absentees include centre-back Naomi Girma (calf injury) and midfielder Sam Coffey (knee surgery).

The US will face Brazil on 6 June in São Paulo and 9 June in Fortaleza, venues for next summer's Women's World Cup. Hayes said the friendlies offer 'an opportunity to really pick up some valuable lessons' ahead of World Cup qualifying in November.
