Top jockey Paul Townend has voiced his belief that Galopin Des Champs retains a significant opportunity to secure a third Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup victory in next Friday's highly anticipated race. Galopin Des Champs finished second in the Gold Cup twelve months ago, behind Inothewayurthinkin, but rebounded to claim the Punchestown Gold Cup in April of last year. However, the horse has not achieved a win since that time. In December, he placed third in the Savills Chase, and repeated that position behind stablemate Fact To File in a February race at Leopardstown, a venue where Galopin Des Champs has traditionally excelled.
An Open Field for the Gold Cup
With Fact To File expected to defend his title in the Ryanair Chase, the Gold Cup appears wide open this year. Galopin Des Champs is among six horses prominently featured in the betting markets, alongside contenders such as Gaelic Warrior, Jango Baie, The Jukebox Man, Haiti Couleurs, and Inothewayurthinkin. Notably, Gaelic Warrior outperformed Galopin Des Champs in their most recent encounter and is considered a favourite, yet Townend is unlikely to abandon the two-time champion.

In his role as Betway's racing ambassador, Townend shared his insights, stating, "I know Galopin hasn't been at his brilliant best this season, but I don't think he's finished yet by any stretch of the imagination. He feels in great form at home, and we're all hoping he'll return to his peak on the biggest stage of all."
He emphasized the magnitude of the achievement, adding, "Winning any Gold Cup is a massive accomplishment, but for him to go there, win a third Gold Cup, and regain his crown would be huge for everybody involved with the horse."
