Thomas Frank has been sacked as Tottenham Hotspur head coach following Tuesday's 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United, a result that left the club five points above the Premier League relegation zone after eight league games without a win.
The club announced the decision on Wednesday, saying chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange had recommended the change to the board. A Spurs statement said: “Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.”
Frank, who signed a contract until 2028 when he replaced Ange Postecoglou last summer, leaves after just eight months in charge. Spurs are 16th in the Premier League and have been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions.
The defeat to Newcastle proved the final straw after Frank had survived a 2-1 home loss to West Ham and a 2-2 draw at Burnley. He had said after the Newcastle match that he believed he would not be sacked, urging the board to “not lose their heads”.
The decision gives Tottenham a 12-day gap before the north London derby against Arsenal, with the search for a new manager already under way.
