Tiger Woods has voiced his support for son Charlie after the 17-year-old amateur golfer chose to attend Florida State University rather than follow his father to Stanford.
The five-time Masters winner took to social media to congratulate his son, writing: "Congratulations Charlie. I'm so proud of you on entering this next chapter of your life." Charlie announced his decision on Instagram, saying: "Excited to announce my commitment to play golf at Florida State University - go Noles!"
Tiger, who studied at Stanford before turning professional in 1996 and leaving after two years, has previously spoken of allowing Charlie to make his own choices. He said at the Hero World Challenge in December: "It's fun to be a part of the process with Charlie ... ultimately will decide where he wants to go play."
Charlie's decision to remain in his native Florida comes as he reportedly signs with Players Group Management, a different agency from his father's representatives, Excel Sports Management. According to Sports Business Journal, he will be managed by Allen Hobbs, who also looks after future Florida State team-mate Miles Russell.
Players Group Management represents a number of golfers, including PGA Tour players Sahith Theegala and Will Zalatoris, as well as LIV Golf's Caleb Surratt. Tiger's daughter currently studies at Stanford, but he has long insisted Charlie should forge his own path.
