Tenerife president promises De Miguel family support

Tenerife president Rayco Garcia has made a financial promise to the family of Jesus De Miguel following the forward's tragic death. De Miguel passed away on Tuesday following an accidental collision with Andorra FC goalkeeper Jesus Owono during Monday's fixture between the two clubs.

Owono was sent off following a high challenge that left De Miguel on the floor and requiring medical attention. De Miguel, 30, was transferred to hospital and tragically passed away from "accidental chest trauma" the following day.

President's Promise to Family

The funeral for De Miguel took place on Thursday, with Garcia in attendance. The Tenerife president is quoted as making a financial promise to the forward's family, namely his girlfriend, Maria, and their daughter.

Garcia is reported to have given this message during a meeting with the rest of the Tenerife squad after De Miguel's funeral. "I ask you to stay close to María... and I promise you that her little girl will never lack anything," Garcia is quoted saying, via Marca.

Family Statement and Tributes

The family of De Miguel had a statement read out by the player's agent, Manuel Hernandez, before the funeral took place this week. "Feeling so much affection for Jesus and seeing the impact he had on so many people is something we will always carry with us," a statement provided by the family read.

"Jesus leaves a void that is impossible to fill, but also cherished memories for all of us who were fortunate enough to share our lives with him. Thank you for loving him and for standing by us."

Fernando Roman, a close friend of De Miguel, recently gave an interview where he claimed that Maria was alone in hospital on the day that the striker tragically died. "Yesterday, my girlfriend and I were talking all afternoon and all night with Maria, his girlfriend, who was alone in the hospital," Roman told Spanish outlet Vamos a Ver.

"I've spoken with his girlfriend, and you can imagine how she is. Now we have to be with the family. We have to send our love to his family, to Maria, to his daughter Carla, who is a year and a few months old. It was unbelievable because we were talking about travelling to Disney with the girls, with my daughter too, and look what's happened."
