Erik ten Hag has insisted he is focused on preparing for next season with Manchester United, despite uncertainty over his future and suggestions of a possible return to Ajax. The Dutchman, who has a year left on his contract, says he is not a person who walks away from his commitments.
Speaking to Dutch publication Voetbal Zone, Ten Hag dismissed the prospect of leaving Old Trafford this summer. “The fact is that I still have a contract here for another year. I signed consciously and am not a person who walks away. So, I assume that I will be at Manchester United next season,” he said.
When asked about a potential return to Ajax, where he won three Eredivisie titles and took the club to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019, Ten Hag said there had been no contact. “Why not? I had a very good period at Ajax and was able to work there in a very pleasant way. It is a fascinating club, with many possibilities,” he added.
The 54-year-old has endured an underwhelming second season at United, with Ineos Group understood to have analysed potential replacements should they decide a change of manager is required. However, Ten Hag played down the rumours, saying he works well with the club’s new leadership and talks daily about next season.
