Dominik Szoboszlai has dismissed any talk of a bust-up with Curtis Jones after the pair were seen in a heated conversation following Liverpool's pre-season win over Wrexham in New York last week. The Hungarian midfielder insists it was never a debate, just a discussion that got blown out of proportion on social media.
Szoboszlai addresses the incident
Speaking about the viral video, Szoboszlai said: "It was never a debate between us three. We just discussed something on the pitch. What (which) actually after you guys make it very big. But next time we will manage to do it in the changing room. But no, nobody was angry at no one. It's all cleared. We are cool, everybody."
The discussion reportedly centered on Kostas Tsimikas being handed the armband after Szoboszlai was substituted in the second half. The club has maintained that such clashes are part of an elite environment, and the pair have since been seen laughing together at a training session in Chicago.
Leadership ambitions
Szoboszlai, who wore the armband during the match, expressed his desire to take on a leadership role following Andy Robertson's exit, which left the vice-captaincy vacant. He said: "No, there hasn't been any conversation [about the vice captaincy]. Obviously we have Virgil as the captain. We have Alisson. We have Joe Gomez. So there was no conversation at all. Obviously Ali is not here. Joe is injured. I was very proud moment to have it. And let's see. It's not my choice. It's not fixed. If you get offered the vice-captain in Liverpool FC, you're going to take it. It would be a proud moment for me. But I respect everybody."
Contract situation and club news
Jones, who has less than a year left on his contract, has been the subject of interest from Inter Milan, who have had three bids turned down. Liverpool are holding out for a minimum of £35 million. The Reds also suffered a 4-2 defeat to Leeds in the US, with Andoni Iraola pushing for more new signings.
