Swansea City have announced the signing of Portuguese defender Tiago Parente from Benfica. The 20-year-old joins the club on a season-long loan deal, with the terms also including an option to buy the Portugal age-grade international.

Parente was at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday to watch his new team-mates beat Leganes in their pre-season friendly. He is set to come in to provide back-up at left-back for Josh Tymon and could be in contention to be involved in Saturday’s Carabao Cup tie against Birmingham City.

Swansea City sporting director Ben Stevens added: “We are extremely happy that Tiago has agreed to join us, and he arrives from a club in Benfica who historically have produced very talented young players. He had a great season last year playing in the Portuguese second division, the Premier League International Cup and the Uefa Youth League. He also featured internationally for Portugal under-20s, and we are hopeful he can continue his development with us.”
He becomes Matos' fifth signing of the summer and will wear the number 20 shirt.
