Paris Saint-Germain reached their first ever Champions League final with a composed 3-0 victory over RB Leipzig in Lisbon. Goals from Marquinhos, Ángel Di María and Juan Bernat secured a serene win for the French champions, who had previously been plagued by a reputation for faltering on Europe's biggest stage.
Neymar and Kylian Mbappé were at the heart of PSG's attacking display, although the Brazilian missed a glorious chance in the sixth minute, poking against the post after a sublime pass from Mbappé. That early miss did not deter PSG, who controlled the game through a slick midfield performance from Leandro Paredes and showed impressive maturity in the first half.
The breakthrough came after 12 minutes when Di María, back from suspension, lifted a free-kick into the area and Marquinhos rose unchallenged to head home. Leipzig, who had threatened through Christopher Nkunku, were stunned and PSG doubled their lead just before half-time when Neymar back-heeled into Di María's path after a defensive error by goalkeeper Peter Gulasci.
RB Leipzig, formed only 11 years ago and appearing in their first Champions League campaign, pressed after the interval and came close through Emil Forsberg, but PSG sealed the win when Bernat headed in from a cross after Nordi Mukiele slipped. The Bundesliga side, who lost Timo Werner to Chelsea, were ultimately outclassed.
The result marks a milestone for PSG's Qatari owners, who have invested heavily since 2011. Having earlier come from behind against Atalanta in the quarter-finals, PSG will now contest their first European Cup final, erasing the memory of previous collapses against Barcelona and Manchester United.
