Steve Bruce Welcomes New Grandson Following Family Tragedy

Steve Bruce has welcomed the arrival of a new grandchild, months after the tragic death of his grandson Madison last October. The veteran football manager's daughter, Amy, gave birth to a son named Beau, with her husband, former Fulham and Leeds striker Matt Smith. The couple already have a son, Lennon.

Amy's brother Alex, 41, a former player and current first-team coach at Salford City, announced the news on Instagram, writing: 'Welcome to the world my new little nephew Beau xx'. The Bruce family had been devastated by the sudden death of baby Madison at four months old.

Bruce, who returned to management at Blackpool after a period of leave, admitted he considered quitting football following the tragedy. Speaking to The Athletic, he said: 'There were times when I thought about not coming back. It's been the tragedy of all tragedies... We'll never come to terms with that. It's agony.'

Following Madison's death, a nanny in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of child neglect, but Greater Manchester Police later ruled it an accident and closed the investigation. Bruce has said that 'there's still not a day where it doesn't affect you'.
