Spurs took control early and held a 3-1 lead after 65 minutes, but Villa briefly threatened a comeback. However, the visitors pulled away decisively in the closing stages, with Cathinka Tandberg scoring twice and Maika Hamano also on target. Signe Gaupset, named player of the match, said: "It's something we have been speaking about, we need to score goals. To score seven is amazing." Villa manager Natalia Arroyo was left rueful, saying: "It was like being thrown in a swimming pool and not allowed to get air - it was cruel."
At Kingsmeadow, Lauren James produced a moment of brilliance to break the deadlock against Liverpool, cutting in from the left before smashing the ball past the keeper. Chelsea led 1-0 at the break and added a second in the second half to seal a comfortable win. James told Sky Sports: "I have been trying to get my form back. It was difficult at the start of this game but then we got our goal and it started to open up."
Manchester United came from behind to beat London City Lionesses 2-1, with Millie Turner heading home a late winner from a Maya Le Tissier free-kick. The result saw United leapfrog Chelsea into second place in the table. Turner said: "It's a massive result for us. To go 1-0 down and then react the way we did, it's huge."
Elsewhere, Everton led West Ham 1-0 in their match, while the fixture between Brighton and Arsenal was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
