The SPFL has officially launched its search for a new UK TV deal, with the current Sky Sports agreement set to expire at the end of the 2028/29 season.
Sky currently holds the rights to show up to 60 top-flight games a season, while Premier Sports can broadcast a further 22. League chiefs have now begun preparations for the next round of negotiations, which will take effect from the 2029/30 campaign.
Flexibility Over Live Match Numbers
Hampden bosses have indicated they are flexible over the number of matches shown live, leaving the door open to a change in the current arrangement. This move follows the SPFL recording its highest annual attendances in history last season, after one of the most exciting top-flight campaigns.
SPFL group chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “Securing strong broadcast partnerships is an essential element in maintaining a balanced and sustainable income mix for the SPFL and its clubs.”
Strong Interest Expected
Doncaster added: “We anticipate strong interest from broadcasters in what is widely recognised as one of Europe’s most exciting national league competitions.”
The separate deal with Premier Sports for broadcast and sponsorship rights to the Premier Sports Cup remains in place until at least the end of the 2030/31 season.
