Gareth Southgate is set to lift the lid on the inner workings of football's boardrooms in a new podcast. The former England manager, who stepped down after Euro 2024, has announced the launch of 'The Football Boardroom' alongside ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa executive Christian Purslow and journalist Henry Winter.
Southgate, 55, has hinted he may not return to management, instead focusing on this new venture. He said: 'What happens in the Football Boardroom? It's time to find out. As England Manager, I was invited into every Premier League boardroom whenever I attended a match.' Over eight years, he observed how clubs function behind the scenes, including decisions, dynamics and personalities.
The podcast aims to explore the 'game of money, power and politics' played off the pitch. Southgate added: 'Success or failure in football isn't decided solely on the training ground... Those moments are influenced, sometimes decisively, by a much bigger game being played off the pitch.'
Purslow, who was Villa's CEO from 2018 to 2023, previously held key roles at Liverpool and Chelsea. Southgate's business partner Jimmy Worrall is also involved in the project, which has been in development for some time.
