Sheffield Wednesday Hit With Devastating Points Deduction

Sheffield Wednesday have been deducted a further six points by the English Football League (EFL) for failing to pay players and staff on multiple occasions, plunging the club to minus 10 points at the bottom of the Championship.

The sanction relates to unpaid wages in March, May and June, as well as other non-payments to staff and HMRC. The club had already received a 12-point deduction in October after entering administration under former owner Dejphon Chansiri, who has now been banned from being an owner or director of any EFL club for three years.

The EFL confirmed the penalty in a statement, noting that it is not seeking further points deductions for alleged breaches in the 2025-26 season prior to administration. Discussions continue regarding an appeal against a fee restriction that runs until the end of the winter 2027 transfer window.
