Alan Shearer has urged Newcastle United to pursue Ollie Watkins and Yoane Wissa after missing out on Benjamin Sesko. The Magpies had a bid accepted for the Slovenian striker, but he is expected to choose Manchester United instead.
Newcastle could also lose Alexander Isak, last season's top scorer, amid interest from Liverpool. Shearer believes the club must strengthen their attack regardless of Isak's future, especially after losing Callum Wilson.
“If Newcastle were to get Yoane Wissa and Ollie Watkins, I think that would be two really good signings,” Shearer told Betfair. “Even if Isak stays, they still need another centre-forward because they've lost Callum Wilson.”
Shearer acknowledged the difficulty of deals with Aston Villa and Brentford, noting that Watkins scored against Newcastle in their last meeting. He also compared the situations of Wissa and Isak, both returning to training but pushing for moves.
Newcastle have already signed Anthony Elanga and Aaron Ramsdale this summer. Shearer warned that the club faces a tough challenge to break into the top four, given the spending of rivals like Arsenal and Chelsea.
