Mohamed Salah has released a statement following a turbulent start to his time at Trabzonspor, after the Turkish club were eliminated from the Europa League on Thursday evening. The former Liverpool forward, who joined the club in the summer after ending his Anfield career, saw his new side suffer a heavy 4-0 defeat to Ferencvaros.
Salah was substituted after 64 minutes as Trabzonspor were powerless to prevent the loss. The result means the Super Lig side drop into the Conference League.
Manager's resignation rejected
Following the match, Trabzonspor boss Fatih Tekke announced his resignation in a press conference. The club, however, swiftly rejected his offer to step down.
A club statement read: "Fatih Tekke has decided to resign due to the emotional intensity caused by the defeat following the Ferencvaros match. As the Trabzonspor Board of Directors, Fatih Tekke's resignation decision has not been accepted. Fatih Tekke continues in his role and will be at the helm of our team in the Amedspor match we will play in the league."
Salah's rallying cry
In response, Salah issued a rallying cry on social media, reaffirming his ambitions for success at the club. He posted on X: "Nothing in my career ever came easy. Bad nights and disappointments are part of football, and I have learned to turn them into motivation and into trophies."
He added: "Trabzonspor is my club, and I am part of this project, body and soul. Last night will not change that. I know expectations are high, and I truly believe we can and will deliver. 'I came here to win' is not just a slogan to me."
