Van der Vaart advises Salah to leave Liverpool; Alexander-Arnold hints at regret

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Rafael van der Vaart has advised Mohamed Salah to leave Liverpool, claiming the Egyptian forward has lost pace and that his presence creates issues for manager Arne Slot. Speaking to Sky Bet, Van der Vaart said: 'When I look at Mohammed Salah and the position he plays on the pitch, he has lost that extra half yard and the pace is gone with age.' He added that having a big name like Salah can be problematic for both player and coach, and that it 'could be best for both sides if Salah goes somewhere else in the summer.'

Salah, 33, is entering the final year of his Liverpool contract and has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League. He was dropped to the bench earlier this season and publicly criticised Slot. Despite still contributing to the team, his goalscoring has not matched last season's levels.

Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold has endured a difficult first season at Real Madrid since leaving Liverpool last summer. Injuries and competition for places have limited his game time. In comments upon his departure, he hinted at regret over how fans perceived the move, saying: 'I completely understand that the news will disappoint a lot of people, will anger people... it's something you don't want to do... you feel like you're letting a lot of people down.' He added that he had to make a decision for himself.

Reports that Alexander-Arnold could be sold in the summer have been dismissed, and new Real Madrid boss Alvaro Arbeloa has spoken positively about the full-back.
