Bukayo Saka scored twice and heaped praise on Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon after England thrashed Croatia 7-0 in their Nations League fixture in Rijeka on Saturday.
The Arsenal forward netted his 18th and 19th goals for his country and missed a late chance to complete a hat-trick as England ran riot against Slaven Bilic's side.
Saka praises Bellingham and Gordon
Speaking to ITV after the match, Saka was quick to deflect the attention onto his team-mates. Bellingham scored once and assisted three further goals in the victory, while Gordon grabbed one goal and one assist to extend his scoring run to a strike in each of his last four England appearances.
“He [Bellingham] was amazing tonight, to be fair,” said Saka. “He deserved [England] player of the year and he probably deserves man of the match tonight as well. He was special. I am happy to play with him and happy to have him in the England team.”
Asked whether Gordon, the Barcelona forward, has stepped up for his country in recent months, Saka added: “Another player who is also on fire in an England shirt. It is nice to have players like that around you.”
England's next fixture and Arsenal return
England face the Czech Republic at Wembley on Tuesday in their fourth and final match of the international break before club football resumes next weekend. Saka will return to Premier League champions Arsenal with boosted confidence after his two-goal showing in Rijeka, with the Gunners back in action against Leeds on Saturday, October 10.
