Ryan Reynolds is aiming for a historic promotion to the Premier League with Wrexham this season, after the Welsh club narrowly missed out on the Championship play-offs in the 2025/26 campaign.
Hollywood Duo's Remarkable Rise
Since buying Wrexham for £2 million in 2021 alongside Rob McElhenney, the duo have overseen a stunning rise, with back-to-back-to-back promotions propelling the club from non-league into the second tier.
While it wasn't to be last season, Phil Parkinson's side are determined to take the next big step of their fairytale journey and make it to the biggest league in world football, with the new Championship campaign starting next weekend.
Net Worth and Investments
Reynolds is one of Hollywood's highest earners, with his net worth estimated to be in the region of $400 million (£295 million). In 2024, he was the second-highest paid actor in the world, earning £79 million from films like Deadpool & Wolverine and IF, behind only Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.
Beyond acting, Reynolds has made savvy investments, acquiring up to a 20 per cent stake in Aviation Gin before selling it in a $600 million (£443 million) deal in 2020. He also sold a substantial stake in Mint Mobile to T-Mobile in 2023, pocketing over $300 million (£220 million) from the $1.35 billion (£997 million) deal.
He and McElhenney have pumped more than £20 million of their own money into Wrexham over the last six years. Despite the club's success, there have been big losses, with a 2023 episode of Welcome to Wrexham revealing losses of around $12 million (£8.9 million), prompting Reynolds to remark: "I'm going to throw up." However, the club they purchased for £2 million is now valued at around £350 million.
£100m Windfall on Offer
Promotion to the Premier League would unlock a windfall worth at least £100 million in the first season alone, driven largely by the league's global broadcasting deals. Across a three-year period, factoring in parachute payments, the total value of promotion is widely estimated at £170 million or more.
Marriage and Past Relationships
Reynolds has been supported by his wife Blake Lively, whom he married in 2012 after meeting on the set of Green Lantern. The couple have four children: James, Inez, Betty, and Olin.
Lively has embraced the Wrexham fairytale, posting an emotional tribute on Instagram after the club's promotion to the Championship: "Back to back to back. History was made. Congratulations to @wrexham_afc. I will never forget the love and elation in that town today. Thank you for sharing it with us always."
Before Lively, Reynolds was engaged to Alanis Morissette in 2004; they separated in 2007. He then married Scarlett Johansson in 2008, but they split two years later. He has also been linked to Sandra Bullock, Melissa Joan Hart, and Charlize Theron.
