Reynolds defiant Wrexham statement after CEO exit

Ryan Reynolds has issued a defiant statement celebrating "togetherness" at Wrexham after a week that saw the departure of chief executive Michael Williamson. The co-owner's comments came after watching his side draw 1-1 with Wolves at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday.

Reynolds and co-owner Rob McElhenney were in attendance as Lewis O'Brien scored for the Red Dragons following Adam Armstrong's opener. The result came days after the club announced Williamson's exit, thanking him for his two-year service and appointing club director Shaun Harvey as acting CEO.

Reaction to Williamson's departure

The announcement prompted a wave of reaction from supporters, many of whom believe there is more to the departure than has been made public. It followed the recent departure of popular former executive director Humphrey Ker.

Harvey was given a warm welcome by the Wrexham faithful on Saturday, and Reynolds pointed to the progress of the new Kop stand, which is under development.

Reynolds' message to fans

"An intense one for @wrexham_afc today," Reynolds wrote on Instagram. "What a show the boys put on. I can’t believe how far along the new Kop stand is. It feels like a living, breathing promise of the greatest days yet to come."

"So much to look forward to… There’s togetherness in the stands and with the boys on the pitch — but more than anything there’s just something about this place. Some of the best days of my life have been spent in this stadium, standing next to @robmac. Today was one of them. Up The Town."

Parkinson on owners' impact

Manager Phil Parkinson said the attendance of the club's owners brings a galvanising effect to everyone at the Racecourse. "It's always very uplifting, I feel, for the people who work at the club, first of all, the players and the staff when Rob and Ryan come over," he told the BBC.

"The crowd as well, they're uplifted by the owners being in town. I communicate with them when they're back in the States, but equally it's good to have a chat with them when they're over."

"Whatever division we've been in, when Rob and Ryan have been here, I think it's good for the players to see their connection with the club, how much they care and how much they're watching from afar," added Parkinson. "Since day one we've been in it together. I always say that when we've done well and have got promoted, how everybody at this club has got this enormous togetherness and that starts from the very top."
