Hollywood actor and Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has shared the painfully awkward moment he first met the club's record signing after their disappointing home defeat to West Brom.
The Deadpool star, who bought the Welsh club with fellow actor Rob McElhenney in 2020, described the encounter as "one of those moments you wish you could rewind."
Post-Match Tension
Wrexham suffered a tough 1-0 loss at the Racecourse Ground against Championship side West Brom in their latest pre-season friendly. The defeat clearly left Reynolds in an unusual position when meeting the team's new star signing.
"I walked into the dressing room full of enthusiasm, completely forgetting we'd just lost," Reynolds confessed. "There was our new record signing sitting there looking devastated, and I'm bouncing in like it's Christmas morning."
Awkward First Impressions
The actor didn't reveal which player he was referring to, but Wrexham recently broke their transfer record to sign striker Ollie Palmer for £300,000 in January.
"I immediately realized my mistake," Reynolds continued. "There's nothing more cringe than being overly cheerful around professional athletes who've just given everything and come up short."
The Canadian star has become known for his self-deprecating humor when discussing his football ownership journey, often poking fun at his own learning curve in the sport.
Looking Ahead
Despite the awkward encounter, Reynolds remains optimistic about Wrexham's upcoming season in the National League. "These moments are all part of the journey," he said. "The important thing is we're building something special here."
The pre-season friendly against West Brom served as valuable preparation as Wrexham aim for promotion to the Football League this campaign.
