Rayan's first goal in English football secured a 1-1 draw for Bournemouth against Aston Villa in an entertaining encounter at the Vitality Stadium. The 19-year-old struck 10 minutes into the second half to cancel out Morgan Rogers' opener for the visitors.
Villa took the lead against the run of play in the 22nd minute when Rogers, set up by Jadon Sancho, powered a shot past Djordje Petrovic. Bournemouth had dominated the first half, outshooting Villa 13-2, but found Emiliano Martinez in outstanding form as the Villa goalkeeper made several saves.
The hosts continued to create chances after the break, and Rayan drew them level in the 55th minute. He received James Hill's delivery near the right touchline, cut inside and beat Martinez from close range. Earlier, Rayan had clipped the crossbar with a first-half effort.
Bournemouth thought they had taken the lead when Junior Kroupi put the ball in the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Villa threatened through Matty Cash, only for Petrovic to produce a fingertip save, while a potential penalty for Bournemouth was ruled out after a VAR review determined the foul had occurred outside the area.
Martinez remained busy in the closing stages, denying substitute Ryan Christie and then Kroupi again, as the match ended honours even. The draw leaves both teams with a point from a game in which Bournemouth will rue their missed chances.
