Marcus Rashford's hopes of joining Barcelona could be revived as Ferran Torres is keen on a move to Paris Saint-Germain. PSG are set to make an official proposal to the La Liga champions next week after agreeing personal terms with the former Manchester City player.
Torres' Impressive Year
Torres has had a standout 12 months, securing several trophies including the World Cup, where he scored the winning goal in the final. Despite his important role at Barcelona, he was not a regular starter, which may be why he is seeking a new challenge.
Rashford and Torres played together occasionally, but Torres often played second fiddle to Robert Lewandowski, while Rashford covered for the injured Raphinha.
Barcelona's New Signings
Injuries to Raphinha and Lewandowski's departure as a free agent led Barcelona to sign Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon, seemingly ending Rashford's chances of a permanent move after an impressive loan. However, these new signings now compete directly with Torres, who may feel overlooked.
Head coach Hansi Flick appeared open to Torres leaving when asked about his future after a 1-0 pre-season win over Nottingham Forest. He said: "I respect all the players, I don't know anything about the situation at the moment. I was focused on the team, and I don't know anything."
Rashford's Return to United
Hours before Barcelona's victory, Manchester United drew 1-1 with PSG. Rashford was absent as he is still on holiday after the World Cup. However, Michael Carrick confirmed that Rashford, along with Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez, will join the pre-season camp in the coming days as they prepare to face Leeds United and AC Milan.
Carrick said: "We have got a full squad this week in Dublin. We fly straight there and have a few days where we have the whole group back together. Marcus is part of that, and Kobbie [Mainoo] and Lisandro [Martinez]. We look forward to seeing them."
What's Next for Rashford?
Rashford currently seems more likely to stay at Old Trafford, but Torres' departure could change things. Barcelona appear focused on a move for Manchester City's Rodri, but may soon need attacking reinforcements.
Julian Alvarez is likely above Rashford on their shortlist, with Barcelona chasing him before the World Cup. Alvarez reportedly wants to leave, but Diego Simeone's side won't do business unless his release clause is met, which could boost Rashford's chances.
