Marcus Rashford has rejected the chance to sign for Fenerbahce and is happy to stay at Manchester United for the 2026/27 season. The England international had started the summer transfer window desperate to complete a permanent move to Barcelona, where he spent a fruitful loan spell last season.
However, Barcelona's decision not to trigger the £26million option and instead sign Anthony Gordon threw his plans up in the air. His £325,000-a-week wages have proven to be a barrier towards finding a new club, and United have therefore integrated the star back into the squad.
Rashford's U-turn and Carrick's praise
Rashford came off the bench in their opening-weekend defeat by Hull City, and Michael Carrick is happy to have him. While Rashford was keen to join Barcelona, he has shown no interest in the other options. With United unwilling to sell to one of their Premier League rivals, clubs in Turkey have emerged as one of the only possibilities.
Galatasaray have been mentioned in reports, and now The Times says that Rashford has shut down Fenerbahce's interest too. Fenerbahce have qualified for the Champions League and have their sights on landing a big-name player, but it won't be Rashford.
Training commitment and return to Old Trafford
The 28-year-old has knuckled down in training, and his commitment has impressed Carrick, who brought him off the bench to replace Patrick Dorgu on the left wing at Hull last weekend. Rashford is now set to make his first appearance at Old Trafford since December 2024 when United take on Ipswich on Sunday afternoon.
"It's been pretty obvious since Marcus came back training with Kobbie [Mainoo] and Licha [Martinez] pretty much in Dublin that he's come back fantastically well, you know," Carrick said last week. "He's enjoying his football, he looks fit, he looks sharp, he looks strong, he looks ready to play football. So I've been delighted with him since he's came back."
Contract and ongoing transfer business
Rashford's contract with United runs until June 2028. He has 138 goals and 79 assists in 427 appearances for his boyhood club and will play in the Champions League this season after United finished third in the Premier League in 2025/26.
United are focusing on finding a club for Joshua Zirkzee, who is the subject of interest from Fiorentina. The Italian side are willing to pay a loan fee of £4.3m for the Dutch striker, with United trying to insert an obligation to buy for £21.5m.
