Rangers vs Hibs: Chermiti injury worry in McInnes debut

Rangers striker Youssef Chermiti was forced off with an injury during the first half of Derek McInnes' first competitive home game as Light Blues boss, with Hibs taking a 1-0 lead into the break at Ibrox.

Chermiti injury mars Rangers' start

Chermiti required a stretcher after a challenge that sent him crashing into the advertising boards. Ryan Naderi replaced the stricken striker, a major concern ahead of Thursday's Europa League second leg against Jagiellonia Bialystok.

The injury came as Rangers struggled to impose themselves, with Hibs taking the lead through Josh Campbell's penalty after a VAR check. The spot-kick was awarded for a foul by Dragojevic on Kerr, a decision that sparked fury among the home fans.

McInnes' difficult start continues

McInnes, who spent five years at Ibrox as a player, has yet to win in two games since taking charge. A 1-1 draw at Tannadice in the Premiership opener was followed by a Europa League qualifying defeat in Poland on Thursday.

The 55-year-old was speaking to BBC Scotland before the match about a club-record bid for Chermiti, saying: "I'm led to believe the club's valuation of the player hasn't been met, so, from our point of view, like everything else, when you get clubs looking at your players, it's business as you were."

Hibs in confident mood

Hibs lost their league opener to Motherwell but arrive in Glasgow confident after a 2-1 first-leg win over Shkendija in the Conference League qualifier. Manager David Gray made four changes, explaining: "Thursday Sunday, quick turnaround as you know, certainly just that freshness within the team required."

Gray also challenged his side to make history: "I believe [wins at] Ibrox [in] back to back seasons has not been done for a long time, can we be the team to go and do it for the third time?"
