Rangers captain James Tavernier is reportedly a target for Greek side Panathinaikos, managed by former Liverpool and Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez. The 34-year-old right-back is out of contract at the end of the season and has yet to receive a new offer from Ibrox, according to the Daily Mail.
Panathinaikos are said to be 'weighing up' a pre-contract offer for Tavernier, who would be free to negotiate a summer switch. The defender revealed earlier this month that talks had taken place behind the scenes at Rangers regarding his future.
Speaking before the Old Firm derby, Tavernier described the current campaign as 'bizarre' due to the title race being more open than usual. He stressed Rangers' need to maintain consistency and aim for the league title, saying: 'That’s my aim every single season here – to win the title.'
Meanwhile, Rangers boss Danny Rohl has indicated further transfer activity is expected this month. The club have already brought in two new signings, and Rohl confirmed they are still looking to strengthen, particularly in midfield following an injury to Connor Barron.
Rohl praised the club's recruitment process, stating: 'We are very strong because we’re making strong decisions. We are not just talking, we’re really acting at the moment.' He added that the club is prepared to continue strengthening to remain competitive in the second half of the season.
