Rangers are closing in on a £7million deal for PSV winger Couhaib Driouech, with chairman Andrew Cavenagh revealing that three to five new players could still arrive before the transfer window closes.
Driouech deal near completion
Record Sport understands that the Ibrox club has beaten Burnley and Celta Vigo to the signature of the 24-year-old Moroccan international. Driouech is expected to arrive in Scotland on Tuesday to complete a four-year contract.
The move comes as Rangers look to strengthen their attacking options following a difficult start to the season under manager Derek McInnes.
Cavenagh outlines transfer plans
Speaking at the club's shareholder meeting at a Glasgow hotel, Cavenagh responded to criticism of Rangers' recent recruitment record, saying: "The transfer window isn’t a supermarket where you can go to the winger aisle and grab two right wingers and move on. Different parts of the window move at different paces and oftentimes you can get stuck.
"There are three weeks to go and we expect activity. I would expect three to five players are probably coming in and I would expect a number of players to go out. We continue to believe that we have a blueprint that works. We are not there yet and we know it."
Outgoings and potential departures
As part of the squad reshaping, Mohamed Diomande is set to join Turkish club Corum FK after Rangers accepted a £4.5million offer. Meanwhile, Galatasaray could return with an improved bid for Youssef Chermiti, having seen an initial £22million offer rejected, but only if the results of a scan on a knee injury sustained against Hibs are not as bad as feared.
Defending recruitment approach
Cavenagh defended the club's transfer strategy, saying: "Recruitment is a team effort. It will continue to be that way. We will never point fingers. We are going to win together and lose together as a team.
"I think there is the criticism of recruitment and then I heard a bunch of individual names. How recruitment works is that it is collaborative, there are a lot of different hands in it. Derek has a voice. Everyone on this stage has a voice."
Refereeing frustrations
At the same meeting, former vice chairman Paraag Marathe acknowledged fans' anger over refereeing decisions, particularly after Sunday's defeat to Hibs, saying: "Listen, you're not wrong. I still can't believe yesterday as well. If anything, I thought it should have gone the other way."
CEO Jim Gillespie added that the club is doing its best to hold the SFA and SPFL to account on governance and refereeing decisions, but stressed: "What is really important is that we don’t want to be seen or known as a club that shouts and stamps its feet, but then does nothing."
