PSG Receive Major Injury Boost Ahead of Anfield Champions League Showdown
Paris Saint-Germain have been handed a significant injury boost ahead of their crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg against Liverpool at Anfield. The French giants have welcomed winger Bradley Barcola back to their travelling squad after a month-long absence due to injury.
Barcola's Return After Ankle Injury Layoff
The France international had been sidelined for exactly one month after suffering a severe ankle ligament sprain during PSG's Champions League last-16 second leg victory at Chelsea. During his recovery period, Barcola missed PSG's last three matches across all competitions, as well as France's recent international friendlies in the United States against Brazil and Colombia.
His return adds valuable depth to PSG's formidable attacking options, which already include Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Desire Doue. The latter two players both scored in PSG's impressive 2-0 first-leg victory at the Parc des Princes, giving the French side a significant advantage heading to Merseyside.
Enrique Cautious About Barcola's Availability
PSG manager Luis Enrique expressed cautious optimism about Barcola's potential involvement in Tuesday night's crucial encounter. While welcoming the player's return to training, Enrique suggested that any appearance would likely come from the substitutes' bench rather than as a starting player.
"We are going to have to see after training," Enrique stated during his pre-match press conference. "Each time we have a player coming back from injury it's always good news. He's been out three weeks and has been working hard to get back and we'll have to see how he's feeling today. It's important for us to get players back."
The Spanish manager also provided an update on midfielder Fabian Ruiz, who has been unavailable since January with a knee injury. "The good news is that Fabian is on the mend and training with the team," Enrique added, though confirming the midfielder remains unavailable for selection against Liverpool.
PSG Confident Despite Anfield Atmosphere
PSG travel to Anfield holding a commanding 2-0 advantage after comprehensively outplaying Liverpool in the first leg. However, they face the daunting task of containing a potential Liverpool fightback at one of European football's most intimidating venues.
Right-back Achraf Hakimi, who experienced Anfield's atmosphere firsthand during last season's Champions League last-16 penalty shootout victory over Liverpool, expressed confidence in his team's ability to handle the occasion.
"We know of course there is going to be a wonderful atmosphere tomorrow," Hakimi said. "We know all about that and the Liverpool fans and our fans will be here tomorrow to support us. We know what happened last year. That gives us more confidence in ourselves to manage the game."
PSG will be hoping to avoid the sort of dramatic European comeback that Liverpool have become famous for producing at Anfield. The French champions' performance in the first leg demonstrated their quality, but they face a formidable challenge in maintaining their advantage against Jurgen Klopp's side in front of their passionate home supporters.
The return of Bradley Barcola provides PSG with additional attacking options as they seek to secure their place in the Champions League semi-finals. His potential involvement, even from the bench, could prove crucial in a match where PSG may need to counter-attack effectively against what is expected to be sustained Liverpool pressure.
