Gerwyn Price has conceded he was 'not sharp enough' after being forced to apologise to Luke Littler during their Premier League Darts play-off semi-final. The Ice Man lost 10-9 to the Nuke in a deciding leg, marking his second consecutive semi-final defeat to the world champion.
Price took to Instagram to reflect on the campaign, stating: 'Oh well on we go, not sharp enough when it mattered, tough long campaign this year but enjoyed every minute. Thanks everyone once again for showing me the utmost respect and support all the way through. Week off then back on the wagon we go.'
The controversy arose in the 15th leg when Price celebrated a 170 checkout by reeling in a 'big fish' gesture, but Littler had already started the next leg. The teenager complained to referee Huw Ware, prompting Price to apologise and exchange words and a hug with Littler before play resumed.
Price had battled back from 9-4 down to level at 9-9, but Littler held his nerve to take the final leg. The reigning world champion went on to defeat Luke Humphries in another last-leg thriller, breaking down in tears afterwards.
Littler revealed he had considered quitting the sport after a difficult start to the season, telling his partner Faith Millar: 'I don't want to do it anymore, just the crowd every week. I said to her I'm down bad.' He referenced an incident in Manchester where he clashed with Gian van Veen.
