Pressley: Dundee can end Rangers' winning run

Dundee manager Steven Pressley has insisted it is not beyond his side to end Rangers' winning run, as the Dens Park club prepare to host the Premiership's form team.

Rangers arrive in Dundee on the back of six consecutive league victories, while the Dark Blues sit fourth in the table after back-to-back wins over Motherwell and Falkirk.

Resilience key to upset

Pressley pointed to his team's character in the victory at Falkirk as proof they can compete with the Old Firm. He said: "It was a really difficult game (at Falkirk) for us at the weekend for a number of reasons: the injuries, the pitch itself and the weather conditions. The team showed an incredible resilience and mentality."

"If you are ever going to beat any of the Old Firm then that is an essential ingredient you will require. We are going to need to show that and more at the weekend. We always know we have a performance in us, which is capable of getting that result."

"We also know it will need to be a top-level performance with a degree of luck. I am not just saying that, you need that. It is not beyond us."

Respect for McInnes' work

Pressley was full of admiration for the job Derek McInnes has done at Ibrox, with Rangers now looking like genuine title contenders. "They certainly have hit a bit of form," the Dundee boss acknowledged.

"The thing with them, like at the teams in the SPL, they have had a lot of change. They have also invested a lot of money and it took a little bit of time to really come together and understand the manager's ways. Over the last six or seven games they have been terrific."

"They look really strong and physical. They seem to be growing in strength in terms of their mind set towards winning. They know the importance of winning games. Seeing Derek, that has been a big part of what he has been trying to instil - just winning football matches at Rangers. They seem to be strong mentally in that department."

"They have a real winning mindset and so it will be a very tough game."

Dundee's home strength

Pressley is aware McInnes will want to go one step further after missing out on the title with Hearts on the final day last season, but the Dundee boss believes his own side are a different proposition at Dens Park.

"He (McInnes) will have learned a lot," Pressley insisted. "His record as a manager is very good. You don't manage as many games as he has without being very good at your job."

"He knows exactly what he is doing, this league and how to get results. You are seeing that just now. A team like Rangers, on the back of six wins, will be brimming with confidence and will have a big support with them."

"There are so many things that are with Rangers at this moment in time but again we have been strong at Dens over the last six months. The group should feel a degree of confidence, but we have to continue to try and improve."

"It will take a top drawer performance, as I have said."

Dundee will be without Joe Westley and fellow striker Bobby Wales, with Wales having returned to Swansea for treatment on his ankle injury after seeing a specialist and awaiting a second opinion.
