Premier League referee Bobby Madley has left his role as a top-flight official, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) confirmed on Thursday. The 32-year-old, who had officiated 91 Premier League matches since 2013, was not involved in the opening weekend of the current season.
PGMOL stated: 'Bobby Madley is no longer employed by PGMOL. We understand that he has decided to relocate due to a change in his personal circumstances.' Madley had been one of 18 full-time professional referees and oversaw the 2017 Community Shield at Wembley, as well as 18 Premier League matches last season.
His departure follows reports that he was ambushed by his family, though PGMOL did not comment on the specifics. His older brother, Andrew Madley, continues to officiate in the Football League.
