The Portuguese manager, who was on the losing side with his former club, watched in disbelief as Trubin nodded in a late free-kick to secure the win.
Mourinho was seen celebrating with a ballboy on the touchline after the goal, which sent the Estadio da Luz into euphoria. Speaking to reporters, he recalled a similar incident weeks earlier when Trubin almost scored from a corner in a match against Porto. 'We knew he could do it,' Mourinho said. 'The quality of the delivery is the most important thing, but it's an amazing goal for the guy.'
The match also saw Mourinho approach former Roma player Dean Huijsen, a Dutch centre-back now with Real Madrid, in the tunnel after the game. 'F****** hell,' Mourinho exclaimed, summing up the extraordinary encounter. He later explained that Huijsen is a close family friend, having played under him at Roma.
