Pedro Porro Blames Tottenham Fans for Bergvall Row After Fulham Defeat
Porro blames Spurs fans for post-match Bergvall row

Tottenham Defender Points Finger at Supporters After Heated Exchange

Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro has publicly attributed his post-match confrontation with young teammate Lucas Bergvall to the actions of a section of the club's own supporters. The incident occurred following Spurs' disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Fulham on Saturday, a result that marks their fourth Premier League loss at home this season.

Frustration Boils Over After Vicario Booing

The flashpoint, according to Porro, was the audible booing directed at goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario by some fans. Vicario was at fault for Fulham's second goal, scored by Harry Wilson, after he gave the ball away in a costly error. This reaction from the stands incited what the Spanish full-back describes as his 'frustration'.

While the 19-year-old Bergvall was seen applauding the travelling supporters at the conclusion of the match, Porro chose to stalk directly down the tunnel without acknowledging the fans. Witnesses reported that Porro was then seen laying into Bergvall, seemingly angered by the youngster's decision to thank the fans.

Porro's Social Media Defence and Fan Backlash

Taking to Instagram to explain his actions, Porro wrote, 'Football is emotions. In football, as in life, there can always be mistakes.' He then delivered a staunch defence of his teammate, stating, 'What I will not tolerate is hearing disrespect from the fans to my team-mates, hence my frustration at the end of the game.'

He struck a conciliatory tone towards the broader fanbase, adding, 'To the true Spurs fans, I love you.' However, his on-pitch antics were met with widespread criticism from supporters on social media platform X.

One fan expressed their dismay, writing, 'You people do not know how absolutely tired I am of Pedro Porro. And his antics at full time, not clapping the fans, ignoring the manager, but coming out to shout at Bergvall? Disgusting.' Another criticised him for 'digging out' a 'young kid who puts in more effort than experienced pros.'

A Deeper Disconnect and Poor Home Form

The episode suggests a potential rift between the players and a segment of the fanbase, exacerbated by the team's poor performance. The match began disastrously for Tottenham, who found themselves 2-0 down within the first six minutes after goals from Kenny Tete and Harry Wilson.

Although Mohammed Kudus managed to pull one goal back, it was insufficient to prevent another home defeat. The statistics make for grim reading: only Wolverhampton Wanderers have a worse home record in the Premier League this campaign.

Porro ended his social media statement with a message of resilience, reminding everyone, 'We remind you, six months ago, everything was so bad. In the end, it is not how it begins but how it ends.' The club now faces the dual challenge of improving results on the pitch and mending relations off it.
