Emmanuel Petit has said Arsenal need to sign a striker and another left winger before the transfer deadline to complete their squad. The former Gunners midfielder believes adding at least two or three more players would help Mikel Arteta's side achieve back-to-back Premier League titles.
Arsenal's summer business so far
Arsenal beat Coventry 3-0 on Friday night and also won the Community Shield against Manchester City. This summer, the club has replaced Leandro Trossard with Christos Tzois and added Ezri Konsa and Bruno Guimaraes to their defensive and midfield options.
Despite the strength of the squad, Petit wants a new centre forward and competition for Tzolis on the left wing. He also expressed concern about the central defensive positions.
Petit's concerns and advice
Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Petit praised the midfield options, including Mikel Merino, Martin Zubimendi, Bruno Guimaraes, Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice. He said he is not worried about that area and believes Arteta will find the perfect solution for rotation.
“They have so many games to play that everyone will be happy and get their chance. My only concern for Arsenal is the central defensive positions,” Petit said. “I also think we should add a striker and perhaps one more left winger. If Tzolis is injured, who else can play there? Trossard is no longer at the club and Martinelli is going to leave, so who takes that spot?”
Confidence and title hopes
Petit said Arsenal have the confidence and now know they can win trophies, having already won the Premier League. He noted they reached the Champions League final and have the quality to compete against top European teams.
“The core squad and the spine of the team remain the same from last season, so I truly believe Arsenal will win the title again,” he added.
