Pep Guardiola Expected to Leave Manchester City at End of Season

Pep Guardiola is expected to leave Manchester City after 10 trophy-filled years as manager, according to reports. The club has not confirmed that his final game will be at home to Aston Villa on the last day of the Premier League season, but figures around the club anticipate an announcement before the season ends. Guardiola's camp has been approached for comment.

His former assistant Enzo Maresca, who is out of work after leaving Chelsea in January, is expected to replace him. City need to win their remaining two games, away to Bournemouth and at home to Aston Villa, to have a chance of overtaking Arsenal and securing a domestic treble.

Guardiola has won six Premier Leagues, a Champions League, three FA Cups, five League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and three Community Shields during his tenure. He joined City in July 2016 and after a third-place finish in his first season, he won the title six times in the next seven years, including a record 100-point season and a domestic treble.

Guardiola signed a contract extension to 2027 in November 2024, citing poor form as a reason to stay. Before the FA Cup final, he dismissed suggestions of sadness, saying he had a year left on his contract. The club will hold a celebration on 25 May for the men's and women's teams, the latter having won the Women's Super League and aiming for a domestic double.
