Enzo Maresca has been confirmed as Manchester City's new manager, replacing Pep Guardiola after a decade of unprecedented success. At his unveiling, the Italian made a pointed remark about the support he now expects, contrasting it with his experience at Chelsea.
Maresca, who previously served two stints on City's coaching staff, led Leicester City to the Championship title before moving to Chelsea. Despite winning the Conference League and securing Champions League qualification in his first season, his second campaign ended prematurely amid claims of insufficient backing.
'The last 48 hours has been the worst since I joined the club because many people didn't support me and the team,' Maresca said in December before a match against City. When asked if he meant internally at Chelsea, he replied: 'In general. In general.'
At his City unveiling, Maresca said: 'City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful. For a manager, that is a dream situation. It provides the consistency I need to do my job effectively.'
City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak praised the appointment, stating: 'Enzo is someone who has always sought out opportunities to challenge himself and succeed. He brings a personality, passion and intelligence completely aligned to our needs.'
