Pedro Porro has revealed he would love to return to Spain in the future, with the Tottenham defender speaking out amid reported interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The right-back signed a new contract in north London before winning the World Cup with Spain over the summer. He returned late to pre-season after featuring as Spain's starting right-back in their 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final, which disrupted the start of his campaign.
Return from injury
Porro then suffered a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined for a month, but he made his comeback in Tottenham's 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, appearing as a substitute. He is back in contention for the weekend fixture against Crystal Palace.
With the January transfer window approaching, speculation over Porro's future has resurfaced. Speaking to El Larguero, he said: "Obviously, I'd love to return to Spain someday. It's my country, and I like the league."
Contract commitment
He added: "Right now, it would be very unfair to talk about anything other than my club because I'm under contract, but obviously, I'd love to go back to Spain; it's a big dream of mine."
The Spaniard had reportedly been on both Real Madrid and Barcelona's radars before committing his future to Spurs. Asked which side he preferred, Porro said: "I'll let people decide. I consider myself a player who can adapt to any situation."
Renewal decision
Porro stressed his happiness at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and his contentment with his new deal, despite earlier interest. "The club gave me the option to renew before the World Cup without knowing what was going to happen. It was a very nice gesture," he said.
"Afterwards, they gave me a great tribute; I feel very loved, and that's very important to me. They've given me a good contract, although if I had waited until after the World Cup, I would have gotten more."
He added: "There were rumours, but I was focused on doing well for my country. If there's real interest, they call you directly, and that didn't happen. There were clubs that enquired about my situation, but there wasn't any real interest. I didn't want to listen too much. Tottenham probably asked for a lot of money for me because they value me as one of the best."
