Former NBA Star Patrick Beverley Speaks Out After Arrest Case Dismissed
Former NBA player Patrick Beverley has publicly addressed the distressing events of recent months, describing his arrest as one of the most harrowing experiences of his life. The 37-year-old was cleared of all charges last month after a grand jury found insufficient evidence to proceed with the case.
Arrest and Bail Conditions Detailed
Beverley was arrested in November on a felony assault charge following allegations that he choked and punched his 15-year-old sister. In a recently released 14-minute video, the former Houston Rockets, LA Clippers, and Milwaukee Bucks guard documented the aftermath of his arrest and his release on $40,000 bail.
"I would never hurt my sister," Beverley insisted in the video's opening moments. "Like, a part of me understands it, right? If I'm outside looking in and I'm reading something - you know, big bold headline, mug shot - I get it. But I would never hurt my sister."
He filmed himself on November 18, immediately after his release from jail, revealing the stringent terms of his bail. These included:
- Daily drug testing calls required between 5am and 9am
- A mandatory 1,000-foot distance from his sister
- Forced relocation of his family to a property in Chicago
"I can't see my mom. I can't see my sister. It's the holidays. Like, what the hell?" Beverley expressed his frustration to the camera while driving a Rolls Royce.
The Incident and Beverley's Account
The alleged incident occurred in Richmond, Texas, after Beverley's sister left the family home without permission to visit her boyfriend. According to police reports, when she returned, her mother Lisa confronted her and asked her to call the boyfriend to pick her up.
After the boyfriend, identified as Aiden Hilderbrand, arrived, Lisa invited him inside and brought him to her daughter's bedroom. She then called Beverley to come to the house. Police claimed Beverley yelled at his sister, grabbed her by the neck, and lifted her off the ground.
Beverley offered a different version of events in his video. He explained he was awakened by a call from his mother two hours before his 5am flight to Los Angeles for basketball workouts. "I go over there and [my mom] explains that my sister isn't in the house when she's supposed to be," he said.
He described pulling his sister by the arm into another room and asking her what she was doing. "As a 37-year-old brother with a 15-year-old sister, it's not really little sister vibes. It's like little daughter vibes," Beverley reflected.
Legal Resolution and Aftermath
Last week, a Fort Bend County grand jury determined there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the case against Beverley. His attorneys, Rusty Hardin and Letitia Quinones-Hollins, told TMZ: "Patrick wants everyone to know that he would never do anything to harm his sister and that he is very grateful that the grand jury has recognized that with their no-bill."
They added: "He is thankful for all who prayed for him and supported him during this time. He is glad that the process was allowed to work as it did and his hope is that with these charges behind him now, his name and reputation will be restored."
Beverley concluded his video by expressing relief at the case's dismissal but acknowledged the lasting impact on his family. "I just can't wait until the truth comes out. And when the truth comes out, it still isn't going to serve me as much justice as I want," he said during the recording.
